Whirl-Y-Gig Club Flyers from 2000 to 2010

When I began producing flyers for Whirl-Y-Gig in 2004 I was very conscious that I was following on from years of tradition. The Whirl-Y-Gig flyer, with its familiar bold arched lettering, the central circle and canopy motif, was designed in the early eighties by pioneering DJ Richard 'Monkey Pilot', using ink and Letraset lettering to create the original artwork. For every new flyer published, the dates would be altered and the design reprinted, always on bright red or orange A4 paper. The format continued for nearly twenty years, until 2000 when rub-down lettering was no longer available. Something new was needed. The first person to take on the task was Matt Smith, known to many of us as DJ Therapy. Matt began a process of change that I have continued to push forward, while at the same time trying to preserve a clear link with the original concept.

Below is a selection of the flyers produced since 2000. I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane.
All the best... Charlie
